Overall, football, snooker and tennis accounted for the highest rate in the proportion of players in the first year, while a lower percentage can be seen in figures for the remaining sports at the same time. Additionally, football was consistently the most favored sport during the studied period.
Beginning with sports standing at the top rank in 1995, slight increase, by around 5%, can be witnessed in the figure for football. Conversely, a downward trend was experienced in the rate of snooker players, which from 30% to about 20% from 1995 to 2005. The percentage of people tennis followed the same trajectory, at approximately 28% in the first year of the period, the figure dropped down to just above 20% after 10 years.
As for the other sports, despite being the least desirable sport in 1995, swimming became dominant in sport participation in 2000, just behind football, due to a remarkable rise, after which , it decreased by about 5% in the remaining years. As for rugby, a recovery after a loss in the percentage of sport participants was observed, as it increased by 7% to reach its peak of about 25% in the last 5 years. By contrast, the rate of people involved in golf showed a declining trend, as it slightly dropped from its top of 24% to 22% in 10 years.
