The bar chart displays the percentage of females and males who are working as teachers in a variety of educational setting in the United Kingdom during 2019.
Overall, there were significant differences between male and female teachers in pre-schools/nursery and primary schools, while their numbers were relatively closer in other workplaces at that time.
Firstly, in the teacher group that worked with pre-school children, there were almost 90% difference in the numbers of male and female teachers, which were around 5% and approximately 95% respectively. Furthermore, there was a huge difference between these groups in primary education as well, which was in the favour of the female teachers. However, in secondary school, the gap sharply decreased to below 20%, and both of the groups were around 50%.
In tertiary education, the numbers of female and male teachers were equal. On the other hand, the number of men slightly surpassed that of women by almost 8% in private the training institute category, and in the university lecturers section, male lecturers climbed up to 60%, while female ones dropped to 40%.
