The pie chart and table compare Australia and New Zealand in terms of the percentage of customers choosing different kinds of websites and the proportion of customers shopping online for four different reasons in 2012.
Overall, it is clear from the pie chart that the highest proportion of people in both countries chose overseas websites whilst shopping. We can also see from the table that lower price was the most common reason for shopping online.
Looking more closely at the pie chart, we can see that while 64% of Australians chose overseas websites when shopping online, the percentage of people in New Zealand who chose overseas websites only accounted for 50%. In contrast, both overseas and local and local-only websites in New Zealand had a considerably higher percentage of customers, with 36% and 14%, compared to only 24% and 12% in Australia, respectively.
Moving to the table, in both countries, the highest percentage of customers shopped online because of lower prices, with Australia accounting for 59% and New Zealand for 51%, respectively. While 23% of Australians shopped online for reasons of greater convenience, a large range of choice was a more common reason for online shopping among New Zealand citizens. An equal proportion of people (2%) in both countries chose online shopping for other reasons.
