The chart illustrates how many minutes per day British men and women spent on household and leisure activities in 2008.
Overall, men spent more time on leisure activities than women, but the opposite was true with households. In addition, cooking and washing were the household activities allocated most time by both male and females.
The time men spent on TV, video, radio was the largest, at 137 minutes per day, higher than that of women at 118. Besides, Reading was an activity that had the most balance between two genders, 18 minutes for men and 19 minutes for women. 15 minutes was the time male played sports per day and this number for females was 11.
In household activities, men spent about 30 minutes daily cooking and washing. This figure was lower than women at around 75 minutes but it was the highest number men spent on household activities. Additionally, females usually spent more time on household work than men such as in cooking and washing, shopping( about 35 and 25), and clothes washing and ironing ( about 30 and 10), respectively. Only in repair work the opposite was true, at around 9 for women and 18 for men.
