The bar charts display the number of Japan’s tourists traveling abroad, measured in millions, and the percentage of Japanese tourists coming to Australia from 1985 to 1995. Both graphs exhibit upward trends throughout the period.
The number of Japanese tourists was around 5 million in 1985, increasing to nearly 6 million the following year. It consistently rose year on year, reaching about 11 million in 1990. Australia’s share of Japan’s tourist market started at 2% at the beginning of the period, significantly increasing to approximately 3% in the next year. Although it experienced a gradual increase from 1987 to 1988, it demonstrated a significant decline to about 4.2% in 1988. It subsequently rose to 4.8% in 1990. It regularly moved up year on year to achieve its highest percentage of around 6.2% in 1993, before falling to about 6% in 1994.
