Overall, the highest rates of employment were found in the 35-44 age bracket regardless of gender, while the opposite was true for those aged 60-64.
In all three years, 80% of Australian men aged 35-44 were employed. In 1984 and 2001, the employment rate of 15-19 year old men was around 60%, however, this figure dropped to just over 50% in 2014. Meanwhile, the percentage of 60-64 year old men in the workforce grew over the years, from just 40% in 1984 to just over 60% in 2014.
The rate of women aged between 35 to 44 increased over the years, rising from just under 60% in1984 to 80% in 2014. The percentage of women aged 60-64 also exhibited an upward trend. The figure grew from just 10% in 1984 to just over 40% in 2014. The proportion of females in the 15-19 age group was around 60% in all three years.
