The given graph illustrates the proportion of Australians using private cars in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide from 2000 to 2010.
Looking from an overall perspective, not in single city had the percentage of people using private cars changed rapidly. Perth and Brisbane cities show that case clearly, while private car users’ proportion in Adelaide increased at the end of the period. Moreover, Sydney gained more people with private cars than Melbourne’s of which was higher than Sydney’s at the initial stage of the period.
Starting with the highest one, Adelaide’s private car users were in proportion to 70% at the beginning and gradual growth came out until 2009. In the last decade, that growth was slightly high, the percentage of which added 10% increasing it from 80% to 90%. More stable ones were Brisbane and Perth, the proportions of which gained 10% during the whole period.
However, 2 cities’ private car users share faced some bigger changes. Sydney and Melbourne by starting at the initial period with 20% and 30% crossed at an index of 25 in 2002. Sydney’s proportion grew up to 40% and gradually fell to the 30% point. Melbourne’s percentage followed a gradual stage after dropping to 20%.
