Overall, Mandarin language was the most popular language followed by Japanese in both cities in the given period, and Sydney schools provide more with these languages to the students than Melbourne schools did.
Regarding Mandarin and Japanese languages, participation percentages for Mandarin classes was 40% in Melbourne, while Sydney students participated just 5% more. Likewise, 25% second language was Japanese in Melbourne as opposed to 30% in Sydney.
As for Italian, Indonesian, and other languages, in Sydney, Italian and Indonesian languages were not as popular as in Melbourne. Italian language was three times more popular in Melbourne than in Sydney, at 5% compared to 15%, respectively, while in Melbourne, Indonesian language was twice as popular as in Sydney, at 10% compared to 5%, respectively. In contrast, the percentage of other languages was 10% in Melbourne compared to 15% in Sydney.
