The pie charts compare the proportion of water used for six different agricultural products in 2004 with their income-generating shares in Australia at the same year.
Overall, the largest amount of water went into fruit and vegetable production, and they also made up the majority of the total income.
In more detail, vegetables and fruits were the most water-consuming products, accounting for a combined figure of nearly three-quarters. Vegetables, in particular, far exceeded the other products with 46%. On the other end of the scale were rice, livestock, and dairy with under 10% each when it comes to water consumption.
Moving to the second chart, the greatest income was still brought in by vegetables and fruits. However, fruits significantly surpassed their vegetable counterpart, as 42% compared to 33%. Seemingly, the least water-using agricultural products at the same time generated the smallest income. It is notable that the money made from rice took up a mere 1% of the total figure in Australia that year.
