Overall, it can be seen that self-help books were the most popular choice for people in both age groups. In addition, the percentages of individuals with a preference for science fiction books and novels were about equal in both groups.
In 2009, 58% of readers who were 18 to 25 years old stated that they preferred self-help books, which was 16% higher than the older group’s figure. Meanwhile, the percentage of 26-to-34-year-old readers who preferred biographies accounted for 31% in total, which was three times greater than that of the other group.
Regarding science fiction books, the proportions of individuals preferring this genre in both groups are nearly equal, standing at 9% for 18-to-25-year-old readers and 7% for 26-to-34-year-olds. Similarly, 23% of the individuals aged 18 to 25 reported novels as their preferred genre, which was approximately equivalent to that of the older group, whose figure stood at 20%.
