The pie charts compare the proportions of readers in two different age groups who were in favor of reading certain types of books at A & Z library in 2009.
Overall, self-help was the most popular type of book across the two age groups, particularly among younger readers, whereas science fiction books remained the least preferred choice. In addition, the charts indicate that readers aged 26-34 showed a much stronger preference for biographies than those aged 19-25.
In the 19-25 age group, self-help books made up a considerably dominant segment of 58%, almost six times as high as biographies, which stood at merely 10%. Novels followed, whose figure was at 23%. Science fiction books occupied the bottom position, accounting for 9%.
In the 26-34 age group, a similar pattern was seen among novels, with 3% higher than those in the group of 19-25 years old. However, while the proportion of readers aged 19-25 preferring biographies represented 10%, that of readers aged 26-34 was significantly larger, constituting a portion of 31%. Science fiction books still recorded the lowest proportion, at merely 7%. By contrast, self-help books topped the list at 42%, doubling novels in the same group.
