The graph illustrates the percentage of energy from six different resources in a country from 1985 to 2003. In general, oil was the largest contributor to this country’s energy system during this period, while other renewable sources occupied the smallest proportion.
To begin with, as the dominant source of energy, oil produced 52% of the energy in 1985. Although its proportion decreased to 39%, oil still represented the largest share in 2003. Moreover, the hydrogen constituted only 4% of the energy production during this period.
Notably, the proportion of natural gas experienced a slight increase between 1985 and 2003, from 13% to 23%, surpassing nuclear and becoming the second-largest contributor of energy in this country. At the same time, a decline can be witnessed in the percentage of energy produced by nuclear power over the period, from 22% to 17%. In addition, in 1985, the rates of energy produced by coal and renewable sources comprised only 1% and 8%, and increased by 3% and 5% to 4% and 13% in 2003, respectively.
