The pie charts depict the percentage of British students who speak many languages. Data of two years are shown here, 2000 and 2010 respectively.
Within a span of ten years, the number of students who did not know any languages other than English has halved. This means that more of them are now eager to learn a different language. However, people seem to have lost the desire to study French, as there is a decline in the number of people speaking it.
On the other hand, the proportion of people speaking German has remained consistent at 10% throughout the decade. There is a soar in the range of Spanish speakers from 2000 to 2010; the figure has changed from 30% to 35%. Moreover, a remarkable amount of students can now speak two other languages, as the pie charts show, the number has risen from 10% to 15%. There is also a growth in people speaking another language over the years (from 15% to 20%).
Overall, it can be said that more British students are now keen to learn a language other than there own than they were in the past.
