The pie chart illustrates the main modes of transport of people traveling to a university in 2004 and 2009.
Overall, there was a decline in the proportion of people traveling to the examined university by car, while the figure for the other means of transport experienced an opposite trend. In addition, the majority of students chose cars to commute to their university in 2004 and by bus in 2009; by contrast, the figures for people opting to take a train or walk to school were negligible in both years.
In 2004, the percentage of people driving to university was the highest, starting at 51%, after which it saw a considerable decrease to 28% in 2009. Conversely, the figure for those going to this university by bus rose from 33% in 2004 to 44% in 2009.
Looking at the other means of transport, 9% of people in the survey cycled to university in 2004, with a subsequent rise to 16% over the next five years. The figures for people taking a train or walking to university were 3% and 4% in 2004, followed by a negligible increase, reaching 4% and 6% in 2009, respectively.
