The pie graphs illustrate the composition of sales across three different types of cars in Australia in three separate years: 1994, 2004 and 2014.
Overall, it is clear that the total quantity of car sales increased considerably, with Sedans dominating throughout the timeframe. It is also notable that while the market share of Sedans decreased, the reverse trend was true for the remaining patterns.
The year 1994 recorded a total number of 42,900 cars sold, in which nearly three-quarters were Sedans (31,700). Unidentified types of cars made up of 19% (8,900), which was almost triple that of SUVs.
Over the following 10 years, despite increasing to 44,000 vehicles sold, Sedans documented a drop in its share to 62%. Additionally, the remaining types both exhibited a surge in both terms, with SUVs rocketing to 12,000 and unnamed types to 25,000 cars, which translated to their respective shares of 17% and 21%. Ultimately, the total number of cars sold rose to 71,000 vehicles.
By 2014, SUVs doubled to 24,000 units and overtook unspecified types of cars, which declined slightly to 18,000 vehicles. Although Sedans only fell by 1,000 cars sold, their share plunged by 11%. Finally, the total quantity increased to 85,000.
