The pie graphs illustrate the new-car sales in Australia in three separate years 1994, 2004 and 2014.
Overall, the number of cars sold increased in all categories, with the largest number of Sedan cars. However, the percentage of “other” category and SUVs rose, while the share of Sedans declined throughout. The total sales rose over the period.
In 1994, Sedans accounted for 74% (31,700 cars), significantly higher than “other” models at 19% (8,900 cars) and SUVs at 7% (3,003 cars). The total sale was 42,900.
In 2004, the Sedans saw a rise in the number, by about 13,000 cars, but a fall in share, taking up 62%. In contrast, “other” category and SUVs increased in both terms, at 21% (25,000 cars) and 17% (12,000 cars), respectively. The total number of cars went up to 71,000,
In 2014, the total sales climbed by 14,000 cars sold, with the SUVs accounting for 28% and doubling to 24,000 in the number of cars. The number of cars sold of “other” models declined to 18,000 cars, taking up the same share (21%). In contrast, the Sedans fell in both number and proportion, at 51% (43,000 cars) but remained the highest share and the largest number.
