The two bar charts give information about the weight measurements of Charlestown residents in 1955 and 2015.
Overall, in 1955, most people in all age groups were in the ideal weight category. However, in 2015, most people in the older age group were in the obese and overweight category. Furthermore, there were fewer underweight citizens in 2015 than that in 1955.
The chart in 1955 were dominated by ideal weight all across the age group. For example, more than 70% of people aged 20-29 and over 80% of those aged 30-39 and 40-49 were in the ideal weight range category. Underweight individuals made up a significantly portion only in 20-29 and 60-69 groups, with the percentage around 20% to 30%, which made the overweight and underweight were relatively small in all groups.
In contrast, the 2015 chart shows really noticeable decrease in people with ideal weight, especially the one in the age of 40-49 on wards. The age 50-59 and 60-69 shows the lowest percentage in ideal weight (below 40%), while the obese and overweight people had increased dramatically. For example, the 60-69 group, obese individuals made up the biggest share at around 50%, while the ideal category had remarkably decreased.
On top of that, The change toward unhealthy weight is visible in younger age group as well, in 2015, only around 60% of people aged 20-29 were in ideal weight compare to 70% of people in 1995, with the noticeable increases in the overweight and obese category. Overall, while 1995 shows a population with a healthier weight trends, 2015 reflect growing concerns of obesity and overweight issues across all age ranges.
