Overall, Italy had a much older population than Yemen in 2000. In the future, both country are projected to witness ageing population.
In 2000, around half of Yemen was people aged under 14 years old (50.1%), followed by the those aged 15 to 59 years old (46.3%). However, in 2050, it is predicted that people in the middle age group to take the lead (57.3%), and those aged under aged 14 years old is projected to decrease to 37%. The remaining 3.6% were people in older age group, which is estimated to increase to 5.7% in the future.
The majority of Italian population was citizen aged from 15 to 59 years old (61.6%), although it was projected to experience a downward trend, decreasing to 46.2% in 2050. Those in older age group accounted for 24.1%, but it is anticipated to double in size to 42.3% in the next 50 years. The other group in 2000 was 14.3%, and it was predicted to drop slighlty with 11.5%.
