Overall, Japan experienced the highest banana prices almost every year, whereas France and Germany prices fluctuated over the whole period. Additionally, among all countries, the USA recorded the lowest banana prices throughout the period.
In 1994, Japan recorded the highest banana prices, at around 1.90$. By 1995, it showed dramatic growth and reached nearly 3.00$, but dropped to its starting level by 1996. From 1997, the figure rose gradually to 2.20$, but then in 2001, it declined to almost 1.50$, making Japan the second most expensive country, and recovered to 2.20$ by 2002. Then, prices rose steadily and reached 2.50$. Moreover, in 1994, the USA showed the lowest banana prices, at only 0.70$. By 1995, the figure rose to 1.20$ and remained stable throughout the period.
From 1994 to 1997, France showed no change and remained steady at 1.60$. By 1998, the figure fluctuated. However, in 2001, France overtook Japan in banana prices, becoming the country with the highest prices, at 1.70$. By 2004, they dipped and recovered to around 1.50$. In 1994, Germany’s banana prices were 1.40$. From 1995, the figure fluctuated, before decreasing and leveling off at 1.20$ by 2002.
