The diagram delineates the reproduction of a salmon
Overall, this is a cyclical process that begins with eggs in the fresh water and ends with adult fish in the ocean.
The process starts when the fish that develop completely spawn eggs in fresh water and die within 2 weeks. At the following step, these eggs hatch in about 3 months then they convert into alevin, which feeds off yolk-sac for several weeks. Following that, these alevin develop to Fry, which can swim and 5 to 10 years old. Afterwards, Parr is a stage after Fry, which is bigger than Fry and has some ‘ finger’ markings that Fry doesn’t have.
The next stage is Smolt, which is 1 to 3 years old and these Smolts will gather as a group then head out to sea. Finally, after 1 to 8 years at the ocean, Smolt becomes adult salmon then these mature salmon spawn and die, completing the cycle.
