According to the diagram, sugar beets are transported by trucks. In the following step, stones and dirt are removed from the beets to ensure that only clean beets continue the process. After this, beets are washed in special washing machines. Next, beets are cut into small pieces called cossettes. The cossettes are added to heated water at 70 degrees Celsius to make sugar juice. Milk of lime is added to purify the juice, as it could contain bacteria. Following this, sugar juice and milk of lime are filtered, so that only clean sugar juice is left. After that, sugar juice is heated to evaporate excess water. Finally, the liquid mixture is spun in a centrifuge, which separates crystals from the remaining liquid
