The given maps illustrate how a coastal town named Portland have changed from 1950 to 2007. Overall, Portland underwent significant modernization, which transformed all industrial and underdeveloped areas into residential and entertainment facilities. Therefore, it has became a crowded and busy coastal town.
Regarding the 1950 map, Portland was located to the south of the sea, bisected by a straight main road into two main areas. In the north-west of the town, there was an industrial area, opposite a car park. Both of these facilities were accessible by either the main road or two small paths branching from it. Meanwhile, grassland took major space of the rest of the region.
Over the seven-decade period, the industrial area was replaced by a park, a multi-story car park and a swimming pool. On the opposite side, the town witnessed the conversion of the car park into some apartment buildings. Concerning the infrastructural area, there were many changes, including the erection of a new yacht marina along the seashore and a new horizontal road. Above this road, a row of stores was built, being parallel to many southern building, namely a cinema and a group of houses.
