The two diagrams illustrate the changes that have occurred in the layout of a Central Library over a 20-year period.
Overall, the library has undergone significant modernization. While the basic rectangular perimeter remains the same, the internal space has been repurposed from a traditional book and media storage facility into a more versatile space featuring digital facilities, a café, and dedicated event rooms.
In the northern section, the area once dedicated to CDs, videos, and computer games has been replaced by a “Storytelling events” area with sofas. Similarly, the children’s book section in the northeast corner has been converted into a lecture room. The central area, which previously housed tables and chairs, has been cleared of furniture to create more open space.
Regarding the southern and side sections, the old reading room for newspapers and magazines is now a computer room. On the opposite side, the enquiry desk has been replaced by a café. The adult non-fiction section has moved to the center-right, making way for adult fiction books and new self-service machines. Finally, all reference books have been consolidated into the area where adult fiction used to be.
