The diagram illustrates the emergency evacuation plan for the basement floor of the Gillespie Neuroscience Research Facility.
Overall, the basement contains two stairways located at opposite ends of the building, while the evacuation route mainly follows the central corridor. It is also noticeable that an elevator is available on the left side, although occupants are instructed not to use it during a fire emergency.
On the left-hand side of the plan, an elevator is positioned in the lower corner of the basement. Close to this area, the “You are here” symbol is shown near Stair 2, which has no roof access. From this location, people are directed to move along the marked evacuation path through the main passageway.
Further along the corridor, the route continues towards the centre of the building, where an additional staircase leads upward. At the far right end, Stair 1 serves as another emergency exit point, although it also lacks roof access. Moreover, the map includes symbols indicating the locations of fire alarms, fire hoses, and extinguishers for emergency use.
