The diagram shows the process for making sugar. It comprises two main stages, which include the farming of sugar cane and the processing of the crop, which turns it into a liquid and eventually into sugar.
The first stage includes growing and harvesting. It takes approximately 12 to 18 months for sugar cane to grow. Once it has fully grown, the crops can be harvested either manually or mechanically with the help of special equipment.
The second stage consists of several steps. First, the harvested sugar canes get crushed in order to extract juice. The juice then is purified by passing it through a limestone filter. After that, the juice is heated, which results in evaporation of the liquid content of the juice, which now becomes syrup. The syrup is put in a centrifuge in order to separate sugar crystals, which are later dried and cooled to produce the final product.
