The diagrams show the different steps in the life cycle of the silkworm and how silk cloth is produced from silkworms. Overall, there are four stages in its life cycle which take about 10 weeks, and the production of silk comprises five steps.
The Silkworm begins life as an egg which is laid on leaves. It takes the egg 10 days to hatch into a silkworm larva which feeds on mulberry leaves. After between four and six weeks the larva produces silk threads around itself. This stage lasts for between three and eight days to produce the cocoon. The moth emerges after 16 days, which then lays eggs on the leaves and the cycle begins again.
Regarding the silk cloth production, first cocoons are selected and then boiled in the water. The boiled cocoon is then unwound and can produce between 300 and 900 meters of thread. When the threads have dyed, they are woven to manufacture cloth.
