The chart presents averages of admission for students of 3 programs – arts, science and music – at 5 timestamps recorded: the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. Overall, we can observe that art and science scholars have generally experienced an increase in admission rates while music scholars have gone through a dramatic drop as time goes on.
Science students in general have always had high admission rates, from 75% in the 1970s to then go through a 15% spike through the 80s, 90s and 2000s before remaining level from the 2000s to the 2010s at 90%. Meanwhile, the rate of admission for art students were relatively inconsistent, with the number of students being admitted in the 70s being 70% before decreasing to around 65% 10 years later. It then grew to 70% again in the 90s before staying put and rising to 80% in the 2010s.
Finally, music academics were at an all time low in the 70s with only 60% being admitted to institutions. Out of nowhere, that number skyrocketed to 90% come the 80s then falling down to around 75% in the 90s before rising again to match the science program admission rates in the 2000s at 90% before tumbling down to 65% in the 2010s.
