The bar chart illustrates the annual consumption of ground and public water in distinct industries in some nations. Overall, the chemicals industry consumed the highest amount of water while groundwater was used virtually in other industries.
In terms of groundwater, the amount of it being consumed in the chemicals industry was 430 million cubic meters, approximately two times higher than that of the metal industry, which was the second highest. The paper industry ranked third with 190 million cubic meters and followed up was the foods/drinks, textiles and fuel industry with 110, 80, 70 million cubic meters respectively. The industry with the lowest consumption of groundwater was machinery with only 10 million cubic meters.
As for public supply, it was dominated by the chemicals industry with 240 million cubic meters and the foods/drinks industry with 190 million cubic meters. The machinery and metal industries consumed around 100 million cubic meters while the amount of public supply of the rest (fuel, paper, textiles) were roughly 10-20 million cubic meters.
