The line graph illustrates the changes in consumption of three various carbohydrate categories: potatoes, pasta, and rice between 1976 and 2006.
Generally, at the beginning most people preferred potatoes, followed by rice and pasta, accordingly. Meanwhile, the rate of consumption of potatoes and rice exhibited a significant decline, whereas the trend of pasta surged rapidly.
In 1976, potatoes already became the most favored among other carbohydrate types with over 400 grams of consumption. This figure experienced a slight growth to 450, before dropping substantially to 400 in 1986 and continued to fluctuate noticeably to just 100, making it the least common at the end of the period.
Similarly, rice initially accounted for around 300 grams of consumption, then this trend hit a low of 175 and remained constant until 2001. Interestingly, the rate of consumption in rice saw a minimal rise to above 200 grams by 2006. However, pasta begins with 275 grams, making it the least consumed, then the popularity of pasta increased dramatically to 500 grams and remained stable till 2006, being the most common carbohydrate types compared with other two categories.
