The number of individuals who came to Japan for business is the most popular reasons, with the figure rising sharply from about 6 million in 1990 to reach its peak at just below 10 million in 2000 and fluctuating between almost 10 million and approximately 7 million during 2000-2010. The trend of the figure for visitors who went to Japan for holiday saw a go up and down. The figure for holiday decrease quickly from about 5.5 million to 4 million between 1990 and about 1993, and keeping growth to 8 million in about 2008, and then the figure drop by almost 1 million from about 2008 to 2010. There is a rapidly increase in the number of visitors who want to visit friends in Japan from just under 4 million in 1990 to approximately 7 million in 2005, and then the figure slightly declines to a little higher 6 in 2010.
Overall, the number of the overseas visitors who came to Japan whether they are in order to work, seeing their relatives or just enjoying their leisure time saw a significant growth between 1990 and 2010.
