Overall, it is immediately obvious that the number of visitors in three categories rose steadily during the period, although the rate and pattern of growth are different.
In 1989, the figure for business, holiday, meeting friends and relatives accounted for approximately 5 millions, 6,5 millions, 3,5 millions, respectively. The number of visitors who came for meeting friends and relatives had a moderate rise to 7 millions in 2008, and it had a slight decrease at 6 millions in 2009. Between 1989 and 1994,the number of visitors who came for business had a minimal decline in 4 millions, subsequently, it rose consistently to 8 millions in 2008 and dropped to 7 millions at the end of the period. Eventually, the figure for holiday increased dramatically to 9 millions in 1996, however, it fell sharply at approximately 7 millions in 2006. Afterwards, it went up again to 9 towards the end of the period.
