Overall, while the percentage of male students participating in Football and Basketball was high, the girls usually preferred Netball and Swimming, and some didn’t even participate in sports activities.
For the boys, The percentage of boys playing football was 20%, which was 4 times higher than the proportion for girls (almost 5%). Following a similar pattern, while the percentage of male students joining basketball was around 7%, there was less than about 6% of girls who took part in basketball.
Meanwhile for the girls. The difference between the boys participating in Netball and the girls taking part was significant, with around 18% for young female students and approximately 2% for male counterparts. Swimming followed a similar pattern, with around 16% of female students but only around 13% of male pupils participating, which is less than about 3% for boys.
