The bar chart illustrates the proportion of people working part-time in 4 different countries in the United Kingdom between 1980 and 2010. It is clear that citizens in Wales tend to work in part-time jobs rather than in other countries. Besides, there has been an increase in the number of part-time workers in most countries over a period of 30 years, except in Northern Ireland.
In 1980, Wales had the highest percentage of part-time workers at a slightly higher 30%, followed by England at around 25%. By 2010, the proportion of part-time workers in Wales had seen a slight increase to just over 35%, while still retaining the highest percentage compared to other countries. Similarly, people working part-time in England witnessed an upward tendency from around 25% in 1980 to over 30% in 2010.
Over the period, Scottish did not initially do many part-time jobs, but the number increased dramatically in the last year of the period, almost doubling from a little over 10% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2010. Northern Ireland’s figure, however, dropped negligibly from roughly 15% in 1980 to just under 15%.
