Overall, Wales comprised the highest percentage of part-time workers in both the years. There was a gradual increase in percentages of England, Scotland and Wales between 1980 and 2010. On the contrary, Northern Ireland was the only country whose part-time percentage declined.
In 1980, around 25% of people in England worked part-time which increased to about 31% in 2010 resulting in a 6% change. Following similar trends, the rate of people who engaged in part-time soared from 11% in 1980 to 19% in 2010. Moreover, Wales emerged as the most dominant country in terms of part-time workers in both 1980 and 2010. The figures increased from 32% in 1980 to 35% in 2010, maintaining its market dominance.
On the other hand, dramatic trends were observed in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland was the only country whose percentage of part-time workers faced a decline in the 3 decade period. The initial proportion was at 15% in 1980 which slightly decreased to 13% in 2010.
