The given line graph illustrates the number of transported goods by four different forms of transport in the United Kingdom between 1974 and 2002.
Overall, it is clearly seen that there were slight fluctuations in the all four goods. At the beginning of the period, Road had the highest level of goods, while the pipeline had the lowest.
In 1974, water and rail supplies stood at 38 and 40 million tonnes. The pipeline by contrast, started much lower -approximately at 7 tonnes, and road started much higher at nearly 70.Over the next eight years, pipeline and water figures increased steadily and by 1982 accounted at 25 and 55, respectively. While supplies of rail and road declined gradually, accounting 30 and 70 tonnes. From this period, road and rail experienced an upward trend and by 2002 stood at almost 95 and 40 tonnes. From 1982 to 1990 pipeline supplies remained stable, after that decreased and reached the lowest level at about 20 tonnes by the end of the period. Water supplies witnessed a decline before growing at 65 tonnes in 2002. Thus, by the end of the period, road was the most transported good among others.
