The bar graph compares the three sources of emissions in the UK, namely gas, coal and oil between 1990 and 2010.
Overall, gas was the smallest contributor to the emission at the beginning of the period while coal was the highest. However, in 2010, gas became the main source of carbon emission whereas coal witnessed a significant decline.
Having a closer look at the details, in 1990, coal was the largest contributor of carbon emission, which was at more than 300 million tons. The figures for this type of fossil fuel decreased slowly year by year reaching less than 200 million tons in 2010. In contrast, gas was the smallest carbon contributor at the beginning of the period, being at just over 200 million tons. In the next two decades, gas emission increased considerably by around 100 million tons as it reached more than 300 million tons in 2010.
As for oil , the figures were at more than 250 million tons in 1990. The rate of this fossil fuel emission experienced some fluctuations in between the decades, which ranges around 200 and 250 million tons.
