The bar chart compares the percentages of tourists from five countries who used four different modes of transportwhile travelling in New Zealand in 2004.
Overall, coaches and air travel were the most commonly used forms of transport among tourists, although preferences varied by nationality. In contrast, ferries were the least popular option for visitors from all five countries.
Among British and German tourists, coach travel was the most popular mode, accounting for around 58% and 54%respectively, while air travel ranked second at approximately 42% for both groups. Car use was less common among these visitors, particularly among the British, and ferry travel stood at about 20%. In contrast, Japanese touristspreferred air travel, which was used by just over 50%, whereas ferries were the least utilised option.
A different pattern can be seen among Korean tourists, for whom car travel was the dominant choice at nearly 48%, followed by air transport at around 42%. Coach usage among Koreans was lower, and ferry travel accounted for the smallest share. Meanwhile, Australian tourists mainly relied on coaches, with about 50% choosing this mode, while the remaining transport options were used by considerably smaller proportions.
