Overall, the beginning of the century and the middle years showed the highest number of employers throughout the period. Moreover, after these dramatic increases, subsequent years shows unexpected fall.
To begin with, period between 1900 and 1940 showed an noticeable drop. Starting at almost 61 thousand people, the numbers of employees then halved, finishing with only 30 thousand people. Also, from 1910 to 1940 there were miserable decrease, from around 40 thousand to 30 thousand respectively, compared to 1900 and 1910, where the drop was decent, showing rapid fall from around 61 thousand to mere 40 thousand employees.
Moving to years 1940 to 1990, there were considerable grow up in the first decade, reaching almost 50 thousand people. Although the grow was noticeable, the next decades only showed consistent drop, from around 49 thousand in 1950 to only 15 thousand in 1990.
