In 1980, about 1,800 young people were on a vegetarian diet, followed by a steady growth to approximately 2,500 youths in 1985. Before decreasing slightly to 2000 teenagers in 1995, the number then experienced a sharp rise to just under 4000 in 2000.
Over the next following eight years the percentage of adolescents who eat a vegetarian food had a graduall drop of 2000. Despite some small fluctuations, the rate showed stability until 2005 year. After which the figure saw a pronounced jump towards the end, reaching the peak at roughly 9,500 teens.
