Overall, the number of armed robberies saw a massive decrease. The figure for assault followed a fluctuating yet upward trend, while murder remained relatively steady over the period.
In 2003, armed robberies were the most frequent incident, at just over 3400. This figure increased slightly to around 3600 in 2004, before falling sharply to over 1000 by 2008. The number rose slightly to nearly 1500 in 2009 and afterwards it reamind stable by 2012.
Assaults stood at around 2300 in 2003 and fluctuated between 2000 and 2500 until 2008. From 2008 onwards, the number of assaults climbed consistently to over 2600 by the end. Murder numbers, unlike other crimes, stayed relatively stable for most of the period though it rose a little from 500 to around 900 between 2003 and 2005. By 2008, the figure returned to its initial level.
