The chart illustrates the proportion of the population in the USA, Canada, and Mexico who use the internet from 1999 to 2009.
Overall, it is clear that in 1999, there were not many internet users in all 3 countries, but they grew to high percentages. Another interesting point is that Mexico had a lower number of people who used the internet at both the beginning and the end of the period.
More specifically, the USA had more internet users than the other 2 countries in 1999, around 20%, but the numbers increased and reached approximately 50% of the population. After facing a small fluctuation, the USA achieved around 80% of internet users in 2009. If we look at Canada, the figure started around 10%. After going up sharply, the proportion of people who used the internet went well over 50%, and without any decrease, it kept rising until the end of the decade, and reached its peak. By 2009, 100% of Canada’s population used the internet.
Looking at Mexico, the country had very few internet users in the last year of the 20th century. It also grew, but not that sharply, compared to 2 countries, finishing the chart with around 40% of internet users.
