The given line graph illustrates the proportions of travel by four different types of transport from 1985 to 2015.
In general, while the percentage of travel by car witnessed an upward trend, the figures for other transports including bus, rails and others, followed a contrasting trend, with a downward trend in the proportion of travel by bus and “others” transports. The proportion of travel by rail remained almost the same throughout the period.
In 1985, approximately 30% of travel was made by car. This figure rose sharply to around 70% by 1995 and peaked at nearly 85% around 2000. However, after reaching this peak, the percentage gradually declined, ending at roughly 70% in 2015.
Conversely, bus travel started at the highest position, at approximately 56% in 1985, but saw a dramatic decrease to just over 10% by 2005, before a slight decrease to about 9% in 2015. The percentage of travel by rail started at about 20%, this percentage then fluctuated and ended at 20%, the same as in 1985. The proportion of travel by “others” started at below 10%, which decreased slightly to around 5% in 2015.
