In 1970, the most popular crime was car theft, i.e., 0.4 million and 0.2 million houses were burglared. In contrast to this, no street robbery was found till 1990 and it was increased gradually and reached at 0.2 million till 2000 and constant in next 5 years.
However, car theft and house burglary were increased slightly till 1990 , which measured as 1 million and 0.7 million respectively. Whereas, the figures for car theft increased dramatically in 1995, which was at peak in 35 years, accounted as 1.6 million and then there was sharp decrease in next decade which was 1 million. In contrary, 0.5 million of street robbery was found in 2005.
Overall, most popular crime in England and Wales was Car theft, which followed by house burglary while street robbery was very rare.
