The line graph illustrates the proportion of working adults in Great Britain travelling to their workplace, working from home, and engaging in hybrid working between April 2021 and July 2022.
Overall, travelling to work remained the most common working arrangement throughout the period, despite noticeable fluctuations. Hybrid working showed a general upward trend, whereas the proportion of people working from home declined significantly compared to its initial level.
In April 2021, approximately 40% of adults travelled to work, making it the most prevalent mode of employment. This figure rose steadily to around 55% by July 2021, before falling slightly to about 50% in January 2022. It then climbed sharply to just under 60% in April 2022, followed by a marked decline to approximately 45% by the end of the period.
By contrast, hybrid working accounted for only about 10% in April 2021, but increased gradually to nearly 15% in October. After a brief dip to around 13% in January 2022, the proportion surged to roughly 25% in July. Meanwhile, the share of people working from home fell dramatically from approximately 33% in April 2021 to just under 15% in October, before recovering slightly to around 15% at the end of the period.
