The maps illustrate the transformation of Frenton over a span of twenty-two years, from 1990 to 2012.
It is evident that significant modifications occurred in the land use types, including the introduction of new commercial and residential structures, while certain amenities remained unchanged throughout the period.
In 1990, the eastern side of High Street featured a café and a park; however, by 2012, this area had been redeveloped into a hotel and golf course. Additionally, residential zones were replaced by new blocks of flats, highlighting a shift towards urbanization. The original theater and shops were remodeled into a modern cinema and a supermarket, respectively. Notably, new residential flats were constructed to the north near the main road, marking a considerable expansion in housing availability.
Conversely, the western side of High Street saw the demolition of a bank, giving rise to a contemporary restaurant and a technology park. The school and library, however, retained their positions without any alterations during this period. Notably, the northern section of the town, which previously housed playgrounds and trees, witnessed a complete transformation as these recreational spaces were supplanted by additional blocks of flats. The hospital, while unchanged in its function, underwent significant structural expansion, reflecting a growing emphasis on healthcare facilities in the evolving urban landscape.
