The provided diagram outlines the transformation of a working mine into a visitors’ attraction.
Overall, the main structure underwent extensive changes, ranging from the replacement of infrastructure with new buildings to the repurposing of the existing area to make the location more visitor-friendly.
Initially, looking at the past’s map, it is apparent that the site was designed for a mining place. Firstly, there were two waste tips situated in the eastern part of the map. Meanwhile, in the northwest of the map, there was a large structure, including an office and a staff room inside divided by a wall. To the right of the building, there was an entrance for employees in order to enter their workplace, and a medical room was next to it. Two parking lots, one for cars, another for lorries, were all situated in the bottom left-hand of the map.
Afterwards, the entire structure was repurposed mainly for visitors. In the east part of the map, waste tips were demolished to make way for a brand-new entertainment complex, with a picnic area in the middle of the eastern site. A new digging driving track was erected in the northeast of the map. To the left of the picnic area, the medical room was converted into a cafe to provide travellers with refreshment, which is adjacent to an entrance for visitors (after being transformed from the entrance for workers). In addition, the large building (comprising the office and the personnel room) was expanded to be used as a museum by removing the wall. The lorry parking, on the other hand, was renovated to become a shop for people to buy mementos. Notably, there are still some new facilities which were added after redevelopment such as a walking path or a playground located in the bottom right-hand corner of the map. Finally, the car park remains intact over the period.
