The two blueprints illustrate the redevelopment of a former coal mining site into a tourist attraction. Overall, the area has been completely transformed, as all industrial facilities were replaced by leisure-oriented amenities.
By and large, it is evident that the two mounds were removed; the northern tip was converted into a picnic zone, which also incorporates a digger-driving track, while the southern tip was redeveloped as a children’s playground. On the western side, the office and staff dressing room were transformed into a museum.
In the central part of the area, the first-aid room and lorry park were developed into visitor facilities, including a cafe and souvenir shop. In contrast, some features remained unchanged, such as the car park in the south-west and the mine underground entrance, which is now designed for visitors. Moreover, visitors now have access to a newly made walking track that runs around the site.
In summary, the modernization demonstrates a striking shift from a purely industrial complex to recreational hub, catering to both families and visitors.
