The diagrams illustrate how the layout of the town of Poulton had changed over a 31-year period since 1990.
Overall, it is obvious that residential areas, transportation facilities and amenities had been totally renovated. Other modifications included the addition of recreation areas and the removal of industrial facilities. These changes had transformed the town into a more liveable place.
One of the most marked changes is the development of housing areas, transport system and amenities. For instance, in 1990, there was a row of terraced houses along either side of Trent Street and Bayley Street. By 2021, the houses on the north side of Bayley Street and the left side of Trent Street had been transformed into mansions and apartments, respectively, while the others had been demolished. Likewise, to the south of the town, the railway workers’ cottages and the railway line running horizontally had disappeared. Besides, on the southeast, three shops had been built along the right-hand side of a new road called New Lane, replacing the shop on Bayley Street in 1990. The cafe and the laundry had also been relocated to the northeast of the town.
Another notable point is that the industrial facilities had been removed to make way for the accommodation and the recreational areas. With regards to the factory and the wasteland in the back of the town, they had been replaced by Bayley mansions. In addition, there was another wasteland situated in the front of the town, to the left-right hand of the railway workers’ cottage. This area had been the site of Bayley Street Park and a children’s play area by 31 years later.
