The two maps illustrate how the Maritza changed from 1984 to 2014
Overall, the Maritza has undergone significant redevelopment, transforming from environmentally-friendly place into indutrial area. New shopping centres, factories, skyscrapers, fountain and bicycle park have been added, and this transformation came at the expenses of green spaces, a cafe and open places. Additionally, public areas such as a hospital and a library have been replaced to another area. Notably, a car park, a restaurant and a school remained unchanged.
In 1984, the Maritza offered limited number of facilities. There was a road running from west to east, hospital, library and houses standing along. Northern part of city was occupied by a car park and a woodland. On south there was another woodland, and a park could be found on south-east. Eating establishments, including a restaurant and a cafe were located near the road, and there was a school on east.
Since then, the Maritza has undergone major modifications. The most notable one has been the construction of skyscrapers and factories instead of the woodland. Hospital and library have been relocated to south-east to make way for shops, while houses near the road were reconstructed and turned into modern apartments. The woodland on south has been removed, instead a park attracted more attention, adding more trees. The car park, the restaurant and the school have been preserved in their original positions, while the cafe turned into fountain. Moreover, the map also features a new bicycle park with its special cycle lane.
