The maps compare how a city called Poulton changed in two different years.
Overall, it can be seen that this town experienced many significant alterations and became more modernised over the course of 25 years. The industrial areas were transformed into residential neighbourhoods.
In 1900, Bayley town was surrounded by industrial areas, including a factory and a wasteland in the north and a wasteland and cottages for railway workers in the south. However, by 1935, this area in the south had been converted into new housing with important amenities such as Bayley Street park and a children’s playground, while it was demolished to make way for Bayley mansions in the north. Moreover, townhouses located in the middle of the city were also part of the Mansion and the park in 1935. In terms of facilities, the old shop which was situated next to the terraced houses was relocated to the south east of the town, and there were three of them. Moreover, a laundry and a cafe were also moved to the side of the mansions.
Another significant change in Poulton was the construction of two flats following the demolition of townhouses in the west by 1935. Moreover, Trent Street was extended to connect with Bayley Street, and a new road named New Lane was constructed to the west of the park. Additionally, the old shop in the north was demolished and relocated to the southeast of the new road, resulting in an expansion of the number of shops.
